Have You Ever Heard The Cuckooing Cuckoo Clock?

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009
Woody asked:

The other night I was invited out for a night with “the girls.”

I told my husband that I would be home by midnight, “I promise!” Well, the hours passed and the margaritas went down way too easy. Around 3 a.m., a bit loaded, I headed for home.

Just as I got in the door, the cuckoo clock in the hall started up and cuckooed 3 times.

Quickly, realizing my husband would probably wake up, I cuckooed another 9 times. I was really proud of myself for coming up with such a quick-witted solution (even when totally smashed), in order to escape a possible conflict with him.

The next morning my husband asked me what time I got in, and I told him “Midnight”.

He didn’t seem pissed off at all. Whew! Got away with that one!

Then he said, “We need a new cuckoo clock.”

When I asked him why, he said, “Well, last night our clock cuckooed three times, then said, “Oh s-h-i-t.”, cuckooed 4 more times, cleared it’s throat, cuckooed another 3 times, giggled, cuckooed twice more, and then tripped over the coffee table and farted.”

Wall Clocks - a Timeless Fascination

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009
Barbara Tobiasz asked:

Who has heard the phrase there is never enough time in the day for all I need to accomplish? Not only have we all heard this saying many times but we have probably said it ourselves. In today’s world people seem to be obsessed with time.  Our lives seem to be ruled by time and the keeper of that time is clocks.

From the beginning humans have searched for a reliable way to keep track of time, from monitoring the phases of the moon or keeping track of the sun and stars for the passing of time. Early on precise timekeeping devises included the hourglass, indexed candles that burned at a fixed rate and water powered devises.

There is a timeless fascination with time keeping and clocks from ancient times. These clocks from long ago are still mimicked today, but use modern technologies for their working mechanism.

There is not a home in the U.S. today that a wall clock does not adorn the walls. Whether it be custom made or store bought, the wall clock livens up our spirits and surroundings. No matter what design theme you have, you will find a wall clock that suits your personality and decor. These clocks are functional, practical and extremely decorative.

Wall clocks are generally offered in two types of movement; a mechanical key wound or a quartz movement clock. The key wound wall clocks are mechanical timepieces that are powered or driven with either weights that hang or with springs. These types need to be wound with a key to operate. Quality wall clocks offer the attractiveness of a sophisticated timepiece. Many of the features, such as traditional chiming methods, are offered on the electronic versions. Quartz wall clocks require less maintenance and the enclosures are usually constructed with the same quality standards of traditional mechanical clocks.

Most wall clocks run on AA batteries, but most recently some are automatically set to adjust for daylight savings time. More technically advanced clocks receive radio signals from standard global clocks making these as precise and accurate as possible.

There are a variety of wall clocks available to suit every taste and style. They come in both modern and retro. They can feature different themes such as movies, music, sports, cartoons and celebrities. They also manufacture some clocks specifically for certain rooms of the house such as your kitchen and bathroom. Also available for your choosing is large and small clocks, floral, radio controlled, pendulum, classic, cuckoo, digital, children’s and outdoor wall clocks. They all bring warmth and elegance and come in an assortment of finishes and materials. Some have features that we would have never imagined possible. Depending on your personal taste and budget you can find wall clocks in wood, metal, acrylic, glass, turquoise, slate and stone.

One of the most important factors before purchasing the clock is to decide where you will place it. This will decide if the clock is an accent for the room or the main focal point when you enter the room. The wall clock can become a conversation piece with its visual beauty and sound. There are Grandfather clocks that can be wall mounted and are quartz driven. There are some that are key wound with chime silence options. You can also mount an alarm clock to your wall. I have one that tells the day of the week, month, date and temperature.

The most impressive model that I have found is called a rhythm wall clock. If you have not seen one you will be in for a real treat. These clocks display motion, lights and fantastic sound for your family’s entertainment. They are available in about a dozen different models from contemporary to traditional. This clock will be the talk of the neighborhood. They do have a special feature that is built in so that an automatic night time shut off activates.

Another benefit of the wall clock is they make great gifts. There is one for anybody you might know and for any occasion. They are stylish and functional and can be custom made to your specifications and even logo for that special person.

You can find wall clocks in furniture stores, home decor stores and specialty stores that just sell timepieces. Now you have all the answers and reasons why this is a great piece to place on your walls. So before the clock strikes the next hour don’t hesitate start your search immediately.

R T asked:

Tried adjusting time time by going back and forth. But still the same result. Both the time and the Cuckoo mechanism are not getting synchronised. I’m from India. The clock was brought by my brother from Switzerland. We’re not very keen on showing the clock to the clock repair person here. But anyone in Mumbai who is aware of a competant repair person please let me know.

You Could Succumb to the Temptation Hitting your Alarm Clock Againt the Wall

Sunday, March 29th, 2009
Muna wa Wanjiru asked:

When we need to wake up in the mornings we like to use an alarm clock. These clocks are not new inventions, in fact there has always been some sort of alarm clock that people have used. Today you can find a great many types of alarm clocks. These alarm clocks range from the old fashioned to the new style clocks.

As today’s lifestyles are very hectic for many of us we need to find an alarm clock that is appropriate for our lives. For instance you can buy one of the old fashioned alarm clocks where you have to set the alarm and then wind the alarm button for it to ring. Now I am sure that many of you have heard these types of alarm clocks. These alarm clocks have a harsh sounding buzzing noise that it specifically designed to wake you from a sound sleep.

You can find other types of alarm clocks in the market today. While these come in many different shapes and forms they all have the same propose. As technology is an intricate part of our lives you will find that most of the alarm clocks feature electronic sounds. There is a talking alarm clock that will inform you of the time when you press a button. This same alarm clock however mimics the sound of a rooster when the alarm rings. Now you can make the alarm sound loud or soft depending on your morning preferences.

Regardless of the noise level, the sound of a rooster crowing is enough to jolt you out of bed and scrambling to shut the alarm off – or at the very least murder the silly alarm clock. These types of alarm clocks are very effective in getting you out of bed – of this I can absolutely assure you of since I happen to have such an alarm clock in my possession. On the other hand you may be the type of person who would like to wake up to the sounds of music.

In that case you can find many different varieties of alarm clocks that have musical settings for their alarms. These alarm clocks can be divided into two categories. One category will have a digital display panel where you can easily see the time in the morning hours. In the night time you will need to press a button to be informed of the time. In the other category you can easily see the time both during the day and the night.

I personally would love to have a musical alarm clock where I just have to look at the panel in order to find out the time. However as there are many different types of alarm clocks in stores around the world sometimes you can find the exact clock that you are looking for. At other times you may succumb to temptation and buy a Homer Simpson type of talking alarm clock.

A Grandfather Clock For The Home With A Heart

Thursday, March 26th, 2009
Andrei Myers asked:

There is no place like home, as the saying goes. What is home but a place where the heart is. It has to be safe and stable through the years, like the dependable grandfather clock.

The Heart Goes On, So Does the Grandfather Clock

Since its reinvention from the ho-hum long case clock, the grandfather clock is still going strong. It has continued to be a focal piece in households all over the world. Its timeless elegance and unparalleled quality never diminished through the years. The tall clock has adapted to the changing tastes and continues to be a sought-after item for homes and offices.

There are three design categories of the grandfather clock:

1. Traditional or antique reproductions

2. Contemporary

3. Curio

There are other variations, but nothing beats the original or the traditional design so familiar to many generations all over the globe. It is still the tall and regal grandfather clock that gets the vote, hands down.

From the three popular categories, interior decorators, homemakers, and collectors can make their choices to suit their specific needs. The thoroughly modern Millie would opt for the contemporary version, or an interior decorator would opt for a traditional or curio to go with the decorating theme. So it is understood that a grandfather clock has a place in all homes and offices.

Not Your Average Clock

Young couples building their homes are hesitant to get a grandfather clock, fearing its stiff price. They shouldn’t because these beautiful clocks have different price packages. But people must know that these clocks are not your ordinary clocks.

These are carefully handcrafted by masters who have been in trade for years. The craftsmanship has been passed on to younger artisans after rigid training and apprenticeship. This is reassuring because people are still getting top-notch quality in these times.

Which Clock is Your Style?

Famous brands like Howard Miller and Ridgeway have continued to produce the clocks with the same exactitude and care. Whenever you buy a clock from these trusted manufacturers, you are assured of top quality - whatever design and model. They are made from the best hardwood and polished to a veneer for that glow that’ll endure through the years.

The Howard Miller Seville Grandfather Clock is a beautiful floor clock in Black Coffee finish with a white face dial. The famous pendulum in brushed nickel grid and nickel-finished weigh shells add to the attractiveness of the bezel. It has simple lines, which is right for a contemporary home. You can imagine how dramatically it will stand out in a pale room with pale walls and furnishings. Perhaps you’ll add spots of bright colors - bold reds, vibrant oranges, and sunny yellows - in your throw pillows or floral arrangement. The picture is just perfect.

The Howard Miller Chateau Grandfather Clock has a graceful split pediment characteristic of traditional designs. The dial is accented by a stationary blue moon phase and polished brass dial. It’s like buying yourself a prized heirloom. For homes and offices that want to maintain a standard tradition, this is the clock to carefully consider.

The Richwood Grandfather Clock by Ridgeway provides three glass shelves for your collections. With two glass side panels, a back mirror, and an interior light, your collections will also earn admiring glances. The clock has a split pediment and a finial crown that is gracefully full turned.

All these clocks have delightful chimes and automatic chimes shut-off. All orders are given the white glove delivery treatment without extra cost. Once installed in your home or office, it will keep in time through the years.

mattsnewestemail asked:

Hi, I am building up a cuckoo clock with my scroll saw from a pattern I got from the book “Building Wooden Clocks”. The only problem is, I can’t find where to buy the parts for the clock anywhere. He talks about a “box” that he made sound like was already made. Please help me out if you have already made a cuckoo clock, or if you just know where to find it. Thank you.

A Mauthe Mantel Clock Is Very Decorative

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009
Jeffrey Fang asked:

There are a lot of different clocks out there, so what makes a Mauthe Mantel clock so great? Well first of all, it’s all the details that get put into one of these clocks. These clocks are made not to just be affective at telling the correct time, but they are also made to be a work of art. In fact, a Mauthe Mantel clock is sometimes just referred to as a work of art.

What Is So Great About A These Clocks?

The amount of detail that gets put into these clocks is so great that you would think that they would cost a lot. However, this leads us to the next reason why Mauthe Mantel clocks are so great. Although there is a lot of detail that gets put into these clocks, they do not cost very much. In fact, a lot of times you can find these clocks online (at places like Ebay) for just $10! That is an amazing price for this kind of mantel clocks.

Also, to understand why this price is so good, for this kind of clock, you have to know what a mantel clock is. This is a clock that you would set up on a mantel above a fire place. Thus, it is going to be the focus point of a room. When you walk in, it’s going to be one of the first things that you see. The better your clock looks the more class it gives to a room. So a reason why a Mauthe Mantel clock is so nice, has to do with the fact that it can turn a normal room into a classy room for just $10.

Where To Find A Mauthe Mantel Clock?

If you want to find a Mauthe mantel clock for your room you may want to start looking online. Although these clocks are well known, they are hard to find in some local stores. Thus, if you do not have a clock dealer in your home town, then you are going to be better off looking online. To start off, you may want to look for used Mauthe clocks. Looking for a used clock could even save you more money. Some of these clocks come from Germany, thus, they can cost more. However, eBay sometimes has these same clocks for the same price as you would pay for a lower class clocks. If you can not find one used on eBay, then all you need to do is go to a search engine. By going to a search engine, typing in something like Mauthe mantel clock could pull up tons of sites that are selling these kinds of clocks.

Also, before you go searching you need to know what the difference between a mantel clock is and a hanging clock. If you have a mantel clock, then the bottom of it is going to be flat so that it does not have to hang on the wall. You also have to know that you should not try and hang a mantel clock, because they are too heavy.

A Mauthe mantel clock is a great way to warm up a room and make it look very welcoming. A lot of people do not know that a clock can do all that for their house. Once you go looking for these clocks you will see why they can do so much for you house.

How do I fix a cuckoo clock that stops after about 5 hours of use?

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009
flumen333 asked:

I have an 8 day cuckoo clock and it has been working fine for quite some time (it was passed down to me, it is know around 40 years old). I have recently noticed that after I wind it and start it again it will stop just a few hours after I wound it. I know it didn’t pull the weights too high because there are rings stopping that. Is this anything I can fix myself?

Small Wall Clocks are an Excellent Choice!

Monday, March 9th, 2009
Blake Allen asked:

Small wall clocks aren’t just functional, but they also add character to the room they’re in. Remember that a small clock can easily be overwhelmed by other things on the wall.

A clock should blend in with the existing style, but not fade in and be hard to notice. Remember - you don’t have to get stuck with a plain black and white wall clock. There are plenty of stylish choices for your home or office. Here’s some basic information about buying small clocks.

There are three basic types of wall clock. Battery operated models are the most popular, and can be hung up in minutes. The average ten inch wall clock uses a single AA battery. However, changing this battery can be annoying.

You can also find corded wall clocks, which must be plugged into an outlet, and can stop if the power goes out. Old fashioned mechanical clocks don’t need power, but must be wound regularly to ensure that they keep working.

You can find wood, metal, and plastic clocks. Which you choose will depend on the kind of decor you already have in your room. Remember that plastic clocks are often lighter than the type with glass covers.

They’re also harder to break, making them easier to ship as gifts. While the cheapest plastic clocks don’t look great, slightly higher end models are nearly indistinguishable from those made with glass. Look for clocks that have a three point contact on their backs, allowing them to sit solidly against the wall without rocking.

Small wall clocks come in a wide range of prices. You can get some as cheaply as five or six dollars, and others as high as a few hundred. Generally, a clock between fifteen and thirty dollars is a good buy for average use. If you’re looking for something special, prices may be higher.

You can find specialty clocks with twenty four hour mechanisms, second hand dials, and other information as well, although this will cause the price to rise a bit. Fancier cases and frames also contribute to the cost of small wall clocks.
