Cuckoo Clocks

Hey, my mom has a Black Forest German Cuckoo clock she bought last year. One day while setting the time (back to where it should be) she accidently hit the hour hand. Ever since then the clock no longer chimes on the correct hour.

To illustrate … the clock could strike 6 but it would chime 8 times … or strike 2 and chime 7 times.

Anyone know how to fix this problem?

Their clock collections usually range from different times, made by varying now defunct clock companies, and clocks of different types, sizes and shapes. One of the most popular antique time pieces are called bracket clocks.

 

Bracket clocks can be traced to the 17th and 18th century, making them truly valuable to the clock collectors. It is an antique, portable clock, which is weight-driven and had to be mounted on a bracket on the wall to support their hanging weight, hence the name suggests. The earlier versions were smaller and were rightly termed as “true bracket clocks” by more meticulous clock aficionados.

 

A bracket clock would often be a matching ensemble of two individual pieces: the clock itself, and a decorative shelf to match. Bracket clocks are generally made of wood, mostly ebony, and often went alongside with some ormolu mounts, wood or tortoise shell, brass inlay and decorative varnish. These classic time pieces were commonplace at that time but were quite expensive. The clocks were also equipped with a handle for convenient transfer from room to room.

 

Nowadays, bracket clocks have been made with modernized versions. But the antique pieces remain quite expensive. The look may have slightly changed but its function and value hasn’t also, it is still widely available in the market so it’s very easy to find one for your self.

My father recently bought my mother a cuckoo clock at an antique store. The clock worked at the store however now that it is at home it doesnt. The weights on the clock wont move and the cuckoo birds do not come out and cuckoo. How can we fix this problem? BTW the cuckoo whistles work as well as the bellows just not the birds and the weights.

I was wondering if there was a tag on the back that gave the date and location of manufacture since I never tried to remove it from the wall and look?
