6 week old baby prefers inanimate objects to people?

My son is 6 1/2 weeks old. I have read that at this age he should be focusing on our faces and returning our smiles. He does focus on our faces for brief periods, and will occasionally flash a smile at us, but he seems to be more interested in inanimate objects. He loves to look out the windows at trees, and he is absolutely ENTHRALLED by our ceiling fans and cuckoo clock. It never fails — if he’s fussy, just hold him in front of the cuckoo clock and he’ll smile at it like crazy. I don’t know what’s so amusing about clocks, fans, and trees, but my husband is concerned that it means something is wrong with him that’s he’s so much more interested in objects than people. What do you think?
